The 101 of Your Rivian

The Basics of the Rivian

If you’re looking for an EV that’s as comfortable on a city street as it is deep in the wilderness, Rivian might be your perfect match. Unlike other electric vehicle brands that focus on luxury or daily commuting, Rivian has carved out a niche in rugged, adventure-ready EVs. Whether you want a pickup truck that can ford rivers or an SUV built for road trips, Rivian’s lineup is designed for people who love to explore.

They currently offer two models: the R1T (a fully electric pickup truck) and the R1S (an all-electric SUV). Both come packed with serious off-road capability, long-range batteries, and cutting-edge tech that makes adventure easier than ever.

Rivian Models Available

Rivian R1T (Electric Pickup Truck)

  • Range: Up to 410 miles (depending on battery option)

  • Performance: 0-60 mph in as little as 3 seconds

  • Highlight: Built for adventure with a quad-motor system and 14 inches of ground clearance

How to Charge

Rivian EVs use the CCS (Combined Charging System) plug, the standard for most non-Tesla EVs. As of 2025, Rivian’s became compatible with the Telsa Supercharger network.

Additionally, Rivians have access to the Adventure Network, a series of exclusive DC fast chargers in remote locations like national parks, trailheads and other outdoor destinations.

STEP 1

Turn off your car.

STEP 2

Press the open button near the port to open the protective covering to expose the charging port.

STEP 3

Select the CCS plug from the charger and plug it into the port.

To use a DC Fast Charger, you may need to remove an additional plug that covers the bottom 2 pins.

101 TIPS:

  • You should hear a click when the plug is connected properly. That may require some pressure.

  • It’s always a good idea to check the plug for any damage before.

STEP 4

Initiate the charging session from the charging terminal or your Rove app.

TIP: A light next to the charging will turn on, indicating the charge has started.

STEP 5

Monitor the progress of your charge from inside your vehicle’s dashboard or vehicle’s smartphone app.

Download the Rove app on Apple or Google Play.

THE 101 AT ROVE

At Rove, you can use the Rove app, which is available in the App and Google Play store, to start, end, and monitor the progress of your charge. Convenience in the palm of your hand.

STEP 6

Once your fast charge is complete, unlock the plug from your vehicle by pushing the release button near the plug port.

Wait for the light to turn off before removing the plug.

Charging Tips

  • Rivians are one of a few cars compatible with the Supercharger Magic Dock, which allows them to charge at these chargers when an adapter is available.

Things We Love About the Rivians

Built for Off-Roading
Rivians are designed to go where other EVs can’t. They're the ultimate adventure EVs with serious ground clearance, quad-motor all-wheel drive, and water-wading capabilities.

Tons of Storage (Without Losing Power)
Thanks to the lack of a traditional engine, Rivians have a frunk (front trunk) and a Gear Tunnel, a unique storage compartment between the cab and the bed of the R1T.

Super Fast Charging on the Go
Rivian’s Adventure Network chargers are placed where EV charging is typically scarce, meaning you don’t have to worry about running out of power in the middle of nowhere.

If you want an EV that can handle dirt trails, snowy roads, and city commutes alike, Rivian is a solid choice. With impressive range, innovative storage, and off-road capability, these EVs are built for adventure without sacrificing everyday practicality.

Thinking about making the switch? Or already own a Rivian? Drop your thoughts in the comments—we’d love to hear from you!
